Position Overview:

Greater Good Charities is seeking a mission-driven and relationship-oriented Major Gifts Officer to grow and steward a portfolio of high-net-worth individual donors in support of our global programs. This role is ideal for a persuasive communicator and strategic thinker who thrives in a collaborative, impact-focused environment.

As Major Gifts Officer, youll lead the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major individual donors and prospects. Youll work closely with leadership and program teams to align donor interests with Greater Good Charities priorities, ensuring a personalized and meaningful donor experience. Your efforts will directly support transformational gifts that fuel our ability to respond to need and amplify the good around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • This position reports directly to the Director of Major Gifts and collaborates closely with executive leadership, program teams, and advancement colleagues to align fundraising strategies with organizational goals.
  • Develop and manage a robust portfolio of individual major donors and prospects, including donor advised funds, family and private foundations, and planned giving prospects, with an emphasis on building long-term relationships and securing gifts of $5,000 and above.
  • Design and execute customized donor engagement strategies, including cultivation plans, proposals, site visits, and stewardship reports. Monitor engagement and achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals, with an initial target of raising $1 million in major gifts in the first year.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications teams to develop compelling donor materials, impact reports, and storytelling assets.
  • Act as a key ambassador of Greater Good Charities mission, programs, and strategic vision in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Identify new major gift prospects through proactive research and networking and qualify them through personal outreach and engagement.
  • Partner with Advancement and program staff on donor visits, events, and strategic solicitations.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and pipeline development in the CRM (HubSpot experience preferred).
  • Monitor giving trends and donor interests to inform strategy and messaging.
  • Ensure timely follow-up, acknowledgments, and recognition in alignment with donor expectations.
  • Contribute to a culture of philanthropy across the organization and support cross-functional fundraising initiatives.
  • Stay informed of trends in high-net-worth philanthropy and donor behavior to bring fresh insights to the team.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in individual major gift fundraising, with a proven record of closing five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (HubSpot preferred) and donor pipeline management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience developing donor proposals and conducting face-to-face solicitations.
  • Comfort working with executives and high-net-worth individuals with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience in animal welfare, environmental, or humanitarian sectors preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to meet with donors and attend events.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and data privacy.
  • Commitment to the mission of Greater Good Charities and ability to represent the organization with passion and authenticity.

Working Environment: This remote position requires availability during standard business hours (9 am - 5 pm) in employees time zone, Monday - Friday, with a full-time commitment of 40+ hours per week Travel: 25%
